Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival Curtain Raiser

Doors Open at 2:30 p.m., Dusty and Stones screens at 3 p.m., the filmmaker Q&A begins at 4:20 p.m., followed at 5 p.m. by line dancing lessons, food (BBQ, cornbread, salads), and beverages (beer, wine, and non-alcoholic options). The Country Western Dance party will run from 5:30-7 p.m.
This special Curtain Raiser Event kicks off the 16th annual Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival. The centerpiece of the evening is the California Premiere of Dusty & Stones, followed by a Q&A with director Jesse Rudoy. Dusty & Stones captures Swazi Country music duo Gazo “Dusty” Simelane and Linda “Stones” Msibi, aka Dusty & Stones, as they embark on a 10-day road trip through the American South after receiving a surprise invite to compete at a battle of the bands in Texas.
After the screening and Q&A, the evening will take a toe-tapping turn, becoming a Country Western Dance Party that includes food (BBQ, cornbread, salads) from A Guy and His Grill, and assorted beverages (beer, wine, and non-alcoholic options). In addition to spinning a variety of Country Music for the dancing (Country Two-Step and Waltz, line dancing and East & West Coast Swing), DJ Joy Anagnostis from OutWest Dance in Sebastopol will also be leading line dancing lessons!

As country duo Dusty & Stones struggle to sustain a music career in the tiny African Kingdom of Swaziland, they yearn for greater recognition. When they are unexpectedly nominated to compete in a Texas battle of the bands, the two cousins journey to the heart of American country music, determined to win big and turn their careers around.
